Tow floats

Tow floats are great for a number of reasons. They mean you are visible to other water users whether you’re in the sea, lake or river and some of them act as a dry bag so you can put your phone, keys or snack in there if you are going on long swims. They come in different sizes and colours, we have reviewed a couple for you which we really like below.

First off is Puffin. The main reason we love this company is that aside from the fact their products are developed by swimmers, they also have a range of eco friendly options. We love the floats as they are very well made, don’t get in the way of your swimming and are made of quality material. There is also a good range of sizes depending on how much stuff you want to carry with you.

Second off we love Ulu Dry Bags. Their ethos is ‘Stay curious, stay safe, stay in search of the flow state’ which very much aligns with ours here at Open Minds Active. This Cornish company launched the Guardian II tow float range in consultation with the RNLI and it shows. We love that it comes in a range of 3 bright colours, has handles, a reflective strip and a whistle which are all great safety features. It feels very durable and you can fit up to 5kg worth of kit in there. Our Founder, Maggy uses these regularly on her guided swims as she can fit so much stuff in and they float really well.
